ENGINEERING STUDENTS PROJECTS EXPO-PROJECT COMPETITION PROJECTS ELECTRONICS PROJECTS

The Singapore Science & Engineering Fair (SSEF) is a national competition organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Science Centre Singapore (SCS). The SSEF is affiliated to the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which is regarded as the Olympics of science competitions. 

 

 

SSEF is open to all secondary and pre-university students between 15 and 21 years of age. Participants are required to submit research projects from the Science Research Programme (SRP), Technology & Engineering Research Programme (TERP), Science Mentorship Programme (SMP) or projects done at school or cluster level. Projects cover all areas of science and engineering.

Students exhibit their projects at the fair, and will be judged by a number of judges from local universities, polytechnics as well as research institutes. Winners will represent Singapore to compete at the Intel ISEF.

The Intel ISEF is held annually in May and attracts over 1,300 students from 48 states in America and 40 nations to compete for scholarships of over US$2 million, tuition grants, scientific equipment and scientific fieldtrips.

Embedded System based Highway Monitoring And Control


            This project uses the PIC Microcontroller 16F877 to control and monitor the parameters of vehicles while traveling in highways.  The main aim of this project is to control the speed of the bus on encountering of some important zones like Schools, Hospitals and Level Crossing etc.  The zones are detected using a transmitter and receiver.  The transmitter will be placed on the Zone and the receiver in the vehicles.  On encountering Particular zone the receiver got signaled and the controller begins to reduce the speed of the vehicle.  On leaving that zone the controller automatically increases the speed of the vehicle.

This project also has a Map to show the passengers, at what station the vehicle started and to indicate the encountered stations on that route.  This is done with the help of various LEDs  fixed on the map.

It has a temperature sensor connected to a vehicle and has a display board to monitor the outside temperature. 
All these system is incorporated  in the vehicle.  The vehicle movement is based on the stepper motor.  We can vary the speed of the stepper motor on particular zones

Maximum Demand Indicating Controller for Industries


SYNOPSIS


In   electrical  distribution  system,  to  avoid   low voltage  and low frequency, electricity board  is  limiting the  power flow to the user.  This is due to excessive  load. requirement  than generation.  Every  end user has to limit his power  consumption  to avoid  total  low voltage and  frequency.

To  over  come the above problem,  the electricity board allots the load limits to its consumers according to the load.  One day is divided into 24,48 or 96 cycles of each 60,30 ,15 minutes duration.  With  in the one cycle (60,30,15 minutes) the consumer can  go upto their limit.  If  any of the consumer has exceeded the limit he has to pay the penalty amout for exceeding the limit.  The penalty will be too heavy for the consumer.

So for the user to know that he is operating within his limits he need to have an equipment which continiously keeps track of the load consumed and trips the load when the load is about to exceed the limit.


Using this MDC we can know the  Power drawn in each cycle, Available power in each cycle, Load shut down facility, Demand time indication facility, Maximum  demand  limit issued by  the  Electricity Board and Audio-visual alert system when the load is about to exceed the limit.

Automatic Vehicle Register System for Highway on Toll Plazas



 

Synopsis

        We can automate the toll bridge gate using the Radio Frequency Identification tag. An RFID tag is fixed with a vehicle. When a card comes in to the vicinity of the reader a charge of some amount will be detected from the particular person’s database and the toll bridge gate is automatically opened for the user to move. The Mechanical Model is constructed using a stepper motor.  The movement of the stepper motor is responsible for opening and closing action.
The Vehicle Details is stored into the computer memory with date and time for future reference. 
Hardware Requirements:
1.   PIC Embedded Microcontroller
2.   RFID Card with RFID tag
3.   Mechanical Model depicting Toll gate
4.   DC Motor for Opening and Closing Action
5.   LCD  Display

1.   Hitech C and MPLAB
